Why would you want an Havana Silk Dog?
You have to answer that. Why would you select any breed as the one you want?
Whether its a Golden Retriever or an English Cocker, a Pomeranian or an Havana
Silk Dog, you pick a dog because you like the looks and personality of the breed.
There isn't one breed that's right for everyone, just as there isn't one type of car
or home that's right for everyone. Having said that, of course I think Havana Silks
are the best! That's why we picked them!

An Havana Silk Dog (we call them "Silks") is a
companion dog, happiest when he is with his people. This is not a dog that does
well in a home where everyone is gone all day! They don't need constant attention,
they aren't dogs that will want to constantly be in your lap, but don't be surprised
when every time you go from room to room, your "velcro dog" is right behind you.
The first thing that catches your eyes about a Havana Silk Dog is often the coat;

The Havana Silk Dog Association of America is new, only formed in May of 2007. Here is
a realy good explantion of what it takes to be a Certified Havana Silk Dog. The
preference for this type of dog isn't new, however; some Havana Silk Dog breeders have been
breeding this type since the beginning, based on the 1963 FCI Bichon Havanais Standard.
And this dog has a documented history of over 300 years in Cuba. After a lot of thought
these breeders decided the only way to preserve this breed was to form the Havana Silk Dog Association of America.
With only a little publicity (the original Announcement and the Association's web site), the response
both in numbers of members and registered dogs has been incredible. The Havana Silk Dog
Association held a Specialty in Virginia Beach in late October, with an entry of over 60.
